Eat & Drink

Hobart’s food and drink scene is small in size but big in flavour, creativity, and heart. From casual waterside cafés to world-class dining rooms tucked away in heritage buildings, the city punches well above its weight when it comes to culinary experiences. Whether you’re here for a weekend or you’re lucky enough to call Hobart home, you’ll find something to suit every taste and time of day.

Start your morning with a flaky pastry and strong local roast from one of the city’s beloved bakeries or specialty coffee spots. Stroll through the historic streets of Battery Point, where charming cafés spill out onto quiet corners, or head to North Hobart for a buzzy mix of brunch favourites and hole-in-the-wall gems.

By afternoon, settle in at a local wine bar showcasing cool-climate Tasmanian vintages or grab a casual pint in a historic pub with a story or two to tell. Come evening, Hobart really turns it on — from bold, boundary-pushing restaurants like Dier Makr and Fico to neighbourhood favourites dishing up seasonal produce with quiet confidence.

With passionate producers, creative chefs, and some of the freshest seafood and farm fare you’ll ever taste, Hobart invites you to slow down and savour every bite and sip.

The Agrarian Kitchen

Named Restaurant of the Year 2024 by Gourmet Traveller, The Agrarian Kitchen (TAK) offers a truly unforgettable Tasmanian dining experience. Located within a breathtaking one-acre walled garden, 95% of... the produce featured in the seasonal set menu is grown right on the property. Guests are invited to begin their experience with a peaceful stroll through the garden, enjoying a greenhouse snack, before being seated for an extraordinary meal crafted from the freshest local ingredients. In addition to the dining experience, TAK also offers garden tours and hands-on cooking classes, allowing visitors to deepen their connection to Tasmania’s rich food culture and learn from the experts behind the menu. Whether you're wandering through heirloom vegetables or mastering new culinary skills, every moment at TAK is designed to inspire. The Restaurant is open for lunch Friday to Sunday from 11:00 am, with a seasonal set menu priced at $195 per person ($220 from 1 April 2025), excluding beverages. This is a dine-in only experience, and advance bookings are essential due to limited seating and high demand. For a more relaxed visit, The Kiosk is open from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm Friday to Sunday and is ideal for families and casual diners. With outdoor seating on picnic tables or BYO blankets on the front lawn, it’s a perfect spot to enjoy light bites in a scenic setting. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome!
